Booked Up With The Brookline Booksmith!

The further I get into my blog, the deeper my appreciation for food gets and I've discovered that I'm not alone in this.  I had always felt that way but I guess didn't know how to vocalize it and never in my wildest dreams would I imagine that I'd gain a sense of community from it.  But that's exactly what happened, and what better place to be than Boston?  There's just SO much going on, I know I have trouble keeping track of it all!

My friends at the Brookline Booksmith had sent me an email the other day to let me know of some upcoming food-related events that they're hosting and in the spirit of growing this community of food lovers, I wanted to share these events with you.  I plan to attend a good majority of them and I'd love to sit amongst my "foodie people" and maybe even meet some readers and fellow food bloggers.  So mark your calendars and stop on by!

If you haven't been to the Brookline Booksmith, you are sorely missing out my friends.  In the day and age of Barnes and Nobles and the Amazons of the world, the Booksmith kicks it old school, being independently owned.  With a warm inviting atmosphere consisting of rustic wood floors, rows upon rows of bookshelves, a gift corner and a used bookshop downstairs where people can sell and buy used books, the Booksmith rocks my very Red Sox.  I find myself there often, sifting through the Fiction, the Non-Fiction and my personal favorite, the Cooking section, I've found it virtually impossible to leave the store empty handed.  While taking the shots for this post, I scored myself a used copy of Tender to the Bone, Growing Up at the Table, written by favorite cook-lit writer of all times, Ruth Reichl - I can't wait to dive right into it!

Along with the buying and selling of books, they also invite numerous writers to host book readings (usually for free!) and they do a fantastic job of attracting some pretty heavy hitters from the writing world.  I know I've attended many and some of my favorites have been Jonathan Safran- Foer (Eating Animals) and John Grogan (Marley and Me).  I'm really looking forward to these!

**Thursday, October 21, 2010 - Madhur Jaffrey (At Home with Madhur Jaffrey)
**Wednesday, October 27, 1010 - Jonathan Alsop (Wine Lover's Devotional)
**Wednesday, November 3, 2010 - Mark Kurlansky (Edible Stories)
**Thursday, November 4, 2010 - Alissa Cohen (Raw Food For Everyone)
**Sunday, November 27, 2010 - Joanne Chang (Flour)

I love the Booksmith! My boyfriend needed to kill a half hour in Coolidge Corner and did it easily at the book store. I've been to one food/author event there. I definitely want to check out the upcoming ones.

As a former Pill Hill resident, I look forward to any vegan suggestions you have. Don't forget to visit the famous house at 63 Beal St.

I wish I lived closer... it's definitely a little bit of a trek over there for me, but those sound like awesome events. I've gone to a couple at the Harvard Book Store before... and I went to Ruth Reichl's reading at the Brattle Theater and met her at a reception at Upstairs on the Square afterward. I love food/book events!

I love the Booksmith! I used to be in all the time when I lived out there, and i agree with your sentiments.

I attended a booktalk here with Molly Wiezenberg of the blog Orangette (her book is A Homemade Life). Thanks for the upcoming events!

Thanks for sharing the events. I used to intern for Molly O'Neill and have a deep admiration for food writers. I'm going to try to go to one of these events, maybe we'll bump into each other there!

Hi Katie!
I used to live right in Coolidge Corner and the Booksmith is definitely the place I miss the most (a nose ahead of the Creperie, cinema and Trader Joe's). They always have a great table of bargain food books. I might have to make it over there for one of these events! And of course, get a crepe. And a Party Favors cupcake. :)

Thanks for sharing! I have been really enjoying discovering so many wonderful Boston food blogs recently - your included, of course!
