The Easiest Dessert You'll Ever Make

Seriously, this is the easiest dessert ever
Seriously, this is so easy it really is embarrassing.  I have been trying to get more into baking but this is my go-to for an easy dessert that literally takes about 10 minutes (if that) to throw together (not including baking time, of course).  This is a recipe that my Mom has been making this at least a couple of times every summer for years and it has always received rave reviews.  I almost don't want to share this recipe because it looks more complicated than it is and now my cover will be blown and the jig will be up.  This dish is really flipping easy.

To prove how easy it is, I'll get started with the ingredients list:

1 20oz can of crushed pineapple
1 20 oz can of cherry pie filling
1 box of yellow cake mix
1 stick of butter (chilled)

Easy enough, right?  Believe it or not, it gets even easier.  To start, dump the can of crushed pineapple into a 9x13 baking dish.  Next, dump the can of cherry pie filling into the baking dish and using a fork or spoon, stir everything together so it makes a deep reddish-pink fruit mixture.

Next, evenly pour the cake mix on top of the fruit mixture.  Using a sharp knife, cut the butter into super thin little square and arrange them evenly on top of the cake mix, covering the whole thing.

Then, throw it all into the oven and bake at 400 degrees until the top starts to brown up a bit.  At this point, take it out and let it cool for a bit.

See? Wasn't that easy?
And that's it.  That is literally all you have to do.  And what are you left with?  Delicious sweet cherry and tangy pineapple warmed up and hidden underneath a crunchy cake crust.  It is the perfect little dessert for an sticky summer evening (it pairs fantastically with BBQ chicken and corn on the cob, by the way) or its perfect for when you need to throw something together last minute.  Fair warning, once you make this once, it gets kind of addicting!

ahhh... it is SO good! One of my co-workers brought it to a holiday party a few years ago and we all were hooked. Now we have it every couple of months at the office and people practically stick their spoons in the pan to get bites of it.
